SUN BOARD GAMES

COMMISSIONED

Event #: SUN-BG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Commissioned is a cooperative/collaborative-style boardgame involving a “reverse” Pandemic and deck-building mechanic. Using a beautifully designed two-sided board, players represent one of six early Christian Apostles who must work together to mature their faith decks, grow the church, collect the books of the New Testament, and overcome persecution (i.e., Trials) from Rome. Each turn, players draw cards from their respective decks (the Arm phase), complete five actions involving Trials, Praying, Sharing, Moving, and Growing (the Live phase), and then purchase new cards (the Mature Phase). During each Live phase, one player becomes the rotating Elder to decide how these five actions will be carried out but with the sage assistance and advise of the other players. You also do not need to know anything about Christianity to be qualified to play! We will be playing either: (1) the first “Acts of the Apostles” scenario (Board Side A); or (2) the fifth “To the Ends of the Earth” scenario (Board Side B). In each of these scenarios, the goal is to spread the church and create the New Testament before the Trial Deck runs out or 5 churches are extinguished.

Event #: SUN-BG-3 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Gizmos is an engine-building game using energy marbles to place Gizmos cards. Players each turn choose one of four actions to archive Gizmos cards (File), select spherical energy marbles in four colors from a central plastic energy dispenser (Pick), add a new machine to their display by placing a Gizmos card (Build), or draw Gizmos cards from one of three card stacks (Research) to File or Build one of the drawn cards. Creating “chain reactions” from combinations of Gizmos cards can allow the player to make each of their turns more productive. Vinhos: Deluxe Edition (2016)

Event #: SUN-BG-4 GM: Kevin Treybig
Event Description: Vinhos (the Portuguese word for "wines") is a trading and economic game about the business of wine making. Despite its small size, Portugal is one of the world's leading wine producers. Over six years of harvests, cultivate your vines, choose the best varieties, hire the best oenologists, take part in trade fairs, and show your opponents you are the best winemaker in the game.

As winemakers in Portugal, the players develop their vineyards and produce wine to achieve maximum profit. The object of the game is to produce quality wines that can be exchanged for money or victory points.

New players are welcome, the rules are not hard to teach. But this is a deep strategy game; players unfamiliar with economic strategy and/or Vital Lacerda games may find it overwhelming.

Terreforming Mars: Ares Expidition

Event #: SUN-BG-5 GM: Kevin Treybig
Event Description: Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition is an engine-building game in which players control interplanetary corporations with the goal of making Mars habitable (and profitable). You will do this by investing mega credits (MC) into project cards that will directly or indirectly contribute to the terraforming process. In order to win, you will want to accumulate a high terraform rating (TR) and as many victory points (VP) as you can. Players raise their TR by increasing global parameters: oceans, oxygen, and temperature. TR also determines each corporation's basic income, and, at the end of the game TR counts as VP. Additional VP and production capabilities are awarded for building project cards and other actions taken during the game.

First time players welcome, this is not a hard game to learn.

SUN CARD GAMES

THUNDERSTONE ADVANCE: TOWERS OF RUIN

Event #: SUN-CG-1 GM: Eric Guttag
Event Description: Thunderstone Advance: Towers of Ruin is a fantasy themed deck-building game where players recruit and upgrade heroes in their deck, as well as buy weapons, items, spells, and villagers to help those heroes defeat a horde of monsters (including the dreaded Thunderstone Bearer) advancing through the Dungeon Hall from a monster stack. On each turn, players may choose one of four actions: (1) “select and battle” one of the revealed monsters in a Dungeon Hall space; (2) buy a hero, item, spell, or villager from the Village, as well as upgrade an existing hero using experience tokens; (3) “prepare” their existing hand by discarding one or more cards, and then drawing additional cards up to their hand limit of six cards; or (4) “resting” by removing (destroying) a card in their hand. The game ends when either the Thunderstone Bearer is defeated, or escapes the Dungeon Hall by reaching the most forward (rank 1) space. Players then count up their combined Victory Points (VPs) from all monsters, heroes, and certain other Village cards in their deck with the player having the highest VP total being the winner. Networld Protocol (Learn to Play)

Event #: SUN-CG-3 GM: Christopher Menart
Event Description: Networld Protocol (2 players, 60 minutes), integrates the tactical richness of Chess and Shogi into an expandable card game like no other.

Like other expandable card games, Networld will see you playing from a themed or customized deck of your own choosing. Unlike other expandable card games, the strength of your forces is not determined by a number. Every piece you summon moves, attacks, and scores in its own unique pattern. No two pieces play off each other in the same way!

While Networld is a somewhat heavy game, no prior knowledge is required--everyone will be taught using themed preconstructed decks. We can play if only 1 player is present (in which case the GM will be your opponent).

Networld is a game in development; be aware you are playing a prototype whose components are not final.

This activity takes 1 hour; no tickets are required, walk-ins welcome! If you would like to check availability or "reserve" a time, email irreducibleboardgames@gmail.com.
